STE ANNE (2021) NYFF 2021

STE ANNE is about a woman  who returns home to her indigenous Métis community in Manitoba. Life happens.

Dream like film is a mixture of scripted and adlibbed scenes creating a patchwork portrait of life in the community. It’s a film that is frequently beautiful, but its also one where interest comes and goes. There are some wonderful scenes that bring us into the life of the people on screen. However not everything works. Some scenes go on a bit too long with nothing happening and some of the film is a bit too dark.

While I will quibble, I did like the film a great deal and I recommend it, especially if you can see it on a big screen.
