BLONDE (2022)

The life and times of Marilyn Monroe as filtered through Joyce Carol Oates novel and director Andrew Dominik.

This was a the subject a lot of discussion before it was released since it was going to be sexually frank and NC-17. When it played the fests there was talk of Oscars and controversy for it not be historically accurate (despite it never intending to be since it is based on a novel). And then it went into the void as soon as it hit Netflix.

Doing my annual year end catch-up I sat down and gave it a go.

Deserving of as many craft Oscar nominations as they can fit in this is a beautifully directed perfume commercial that runs three hours.

This really is a stunner, both visually and aurally, but I don’t know much beyond that. I was left wondering why they were telling me this story and what they were doing so for too many hours.

I’m sure it means something to someone but it bored me.
