Trying to explain why Paper and Glue (2021) is one of the best films of the year Tribeca 2021

PAPER AND GLUE reduced me to a sobbing mess. This film, a portrait of the artist JR, singularly and perfectly shows us the power of  art to change the world. As a result it is one of the most hopeful films you will see all year.

The film is seemingly a portrait of various projects under takes across the globe. We watch as he makes a mural in a high security prison, makes art involving the fence between America and Mexico, We see the early days, before JR was pasting his art up and we see what happened in Brazil. Other than having JR the projects seem separate...until they aren't and you suddenly see how all the pieces together, and how the world can be changed for the better because art alters how we see the world.

And the summation of it all welled up inside me and I was moved on a visceral level. Tears flowed and for the first time in a very long time I felt hope for the world. In watching the changes that JR was making I saw a better world.

Frankly this film has me somewhere beyond words. I am floating above my life and feeling alive.

PAPER AND GLUE is the best sort of film, the best sort of art- one that changes the way you feel and makes you see the possibilities of the world.

One of the very best films of 2021. One of the best films on art I've ever seen. An absolute must.
