The Museum of The Moving Images annual First Look Festival starts this week and if you can get to Astoria I suggest you go because they are running a bunch of really great films.
The Annual Fest highlights well regarded films from around the world that are due to hit American theaters and streaming services before they make a big splash. The fest is a kind of like being a Congressperson given secret information and turning it to their advantage. However where the Congressmen would make millions in a shady deal, you’ll end up making your friends jealous by being ahead of the curve on some great films. I say that’s just as big a win.
But I digress.
The fest is running from March 16 to 20 and it is full of great films- for example
PETROV'S FLU- one day in the life of a family. It's a great genre mixing delight
OLD NEW PLAY- The history of China as theater. Just buckle up and enjoy
VENGEANCE IS MINE, ALL THERS PAY CASH-Genre bending film is everything I love aboutthe movie. One of the best films of 2022
BABI YAR.CONTEXT -the stry of a masscre told in archival ftage. It will rock your world
